Two CTA staff members attended the ‘Livelihoods & ICT Expert Consultation’ on 24-26 February 2010 in The Hague.
A first for Scientific Data Management
Fifteen agricultural researchers from Angola, Mozambique and São Tome & Principe participated in a CTA training course on Scientific Data Management at Maputo, Mozambique over the period 08 - 19 February 2010.
J-C Burguet designated as Acting Director, CTA
In view of the recruitment procedure for the new Director, following the departure of Dr Hansjörg Neun on the termination of his 5-year, fixed-term contract on 28th February 2010, the Executive Board of CTA has designated Mr J-C Burguet as Acting Director of the Centre.
CTA Cuts Energy Consumption
Following the implementation of the “Green Group” at CTA, the Centre has managed to reduce its electricity consumption by approximately 16% over the previous year, despite the severity of the 2009-2010 winter season.
Water and Health
On the 8th February, CTA attended the conference on “Access to Water, access to health” at Aidco Infopoint. The event was a preamble for the launching of the 10th EDF ACP-EU Water Facility, which took place on the 9th February in Charlemagne Building (European Commission) and presented 3 success stories in Haïti, Senegal, and Timor-Leste under the 9th EDF.
New Horizons
After 5 years at the helm of CTA, Dr Hansjörg Neun is moving on to follow a new career as a private development consultant. Following are a few words of goodbye. See also his view point in the February issue of Spore.
Telecentres Movement Gains Momentum
Rwanda Telecentre Network (RTN) has decided to take the lead in eliminating the digital gap and promoting digital opportunities in rural Rwanda by creating 1,000 Teleservice centres by the year 2015.
CTA expresses its condolences to the people of Haiti
CTA prepared a video message in which it presented its condolences to the Haitian people in general and in particular to the family of the recently deceased Jean Fritz Boutin.
A year of change and Knowledge Sharing
The CTA Annual Report Highlights for 2009, titled ‘A year of change and knowledge sharing’, are now available. This year, as in 2009, the Highlights, published in English, French and Portuguese, were distributed with the February issue of Spore.
ICT4Dev Programme Coordinator at CTA
Ken Lohento, a Beninese national recently joined CTA as Programme Coordinator - ICT for Development.
Ken brings a wealth of experience and expertise in ICT for development, having worked with several national and international organizations in various capacities.
