New York, United States, 14 October 2011

February 23, 2013
CTA received a Most Valued Development Partner Award from NEPAD Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ibrahim Mayaki, at the 10th NEPAD anniversary celebrations, held in Addis on 28 March 2012, which involved a colloquium and congress. CTA was among UN and other international organisations recognized for their contribution to the NEPAD agenda.

At the High Level Panel discussion held during the 10th Anniversary celebrations on prospects of a rising continent Africa by 2050, Mr Michael Hailu, the CTA Director hailed the excellent partnership that exist between NEPAD Planning and Coordination Agency and CTA and noted how CTAs work is well-aligned to NEPADs programmes, particularly its Comprehensive African Agricultural development programme (CAADP).

We are already engaged with NEPAD on many fronts, especially within the CAADP framework. The conference helped us to re-enforce our commitment and re-align our efforts in the areas of agricultural policy, especially in development of agricultural value chains in Africa within the framework of CAADP. We shall be working with NEPAD Agency to develop specific activities, especially in areas that were highlighted during the conference such as enhancing smallholder value chains, strengthening engagement of the media in covering development stories in Africa and helping the youth in rural areas to make better use of ICTs to improve their livelihoods.
The Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, and former Heads of State Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria and Jerry Rawlings of Ghana, were among the many senior officials who attended the 10th anniversary celebrations.
