Supporting value chains in the Pacific Islands

June 12, 2013

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), with support from CTA, has been actively promoting value chain development in recent months. In April SPC organised a Pacific Value Chains Conference at Nadi in Fiji.

This brought together participants from the private sector, from government, from farmer organisations, from donors and others. Many fascinating presentations led to some interesting exchanges on how to move value chain development forward in a region that suffers from inadequate communications, great distances to overseas markets and poor economies of scale.

Pacific AgLinks is a new website that was launched at the Conference. It aims to act as a focal point for value chain development in the region by drawing together all relevant work on the topic and enabling information to be exchanged between those working on the subject. It has a section on explaining value chains; case studies from the Pacific; and many links to other sites, media, resources and people involved in value chain work. All presentations at the Pacific Value Chains Conference can be downloaded from this new site.
