The conference is organised every other year by the Pacific Science Association, and will be held at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. CTA is one of the sponsors of this event.
The goal of the conference is to foster more communication in science and technology among communities of the Pacific region. Participants will review common scientific concerns in the Pacific Basin in a multidisciplinary forum, under seven subthemes ranging from ICTs to ocean industries.
Mrs. Francis delivers the keynote address on Food Security in the Island States on 9 July, as part of the Food, Water, Energy and Health portion of the conference. The two day meeting is run by the Pacific Islands Universities Research Networking (PIURN), consisting of the vice chancellors and senior representatives of various Pacific universities. During the week key stakeholders will also meet to finalise an agreement on the formation of a Regional Research Council by PIURN that would support National Research Councils in the Pacific.
This conference gives CTA the opportunity to strengthen its relationship with Pacific scientists and colleagues from around the world, and also identify new projects in the region on which to collaborate with partners.
