Negotiations on European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) suspended

The European Maritime and Fisheries Fund is supposed to help fishermen adapt to the key principles of the common fisheries policy (CFP) reform, such as preserving fish stocks by better aligning catches with scientific advice and implementing a discard ban, the Council informs.

Despite all the efforts and intense talks during the last months, the negotiations on the EMFF were suspended on Thursday 19 December. The negotiators could not find a satisfactory solution on the budgetary allocations for the measures under shared and direct management, on engine replacement and several other issues.
