Expert consultation on ‘Managing Trans-boundary Diseases of Agricultural Importance in the Asia-Pacific’

To provide a common platform for addressing trans-boundary diseases (TBDs), the biotechnology programme of the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), known as Asia-Pacific Consortium on Agricultural Biotechnology (APCoAB), in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) organised this Expert Consultation on 10 12 October 2012 in New Delhi.

The meeting took stock of the status of occurrence and impact of TBDs, progress in R&D, and current and future needs to manage these diseases so as to minimise their impacts. Key recommendations concerning TBDs in plants, animal and fish and their management in the region include better documentation and capacity for diagnostic of TBDs, regional-level surveillance, reliable anti-serum/vaccines banks, preparedness and rapid response infrastructure.
