In an official statement yesterday, 10 November 2014, Professor Eric Tollens, Chair of the CTA Executive Board, expressed his support for the decision and said that he was certain Michael Hailu would continue to lead the Centre towards delivering on the ambitious goals set out in the 2011–2015 Strategic Plan.
“I am honoured to accept the offer to continue as Director of CTA,” said Michael Hailu. ‘”I see this as an expression of trust the Executive Board, the Committee of Ambassadors of the ACP Group and EU have placed in me and the team at CTA. We have achieved a great deal over the last few years but we have to continue to rise to the challenge to advance food and nutrition security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries.”
He commented further that 2015 would see a refinement of the existing Strategic Plan but echoed Tollens’ sentiments that CTA was on the right path.
This is the first time in CTA’s recent history that a director has been appointed for a second five-year mandate. Eric Tollens described it as “an unparalleled situation and an important moment for CTA.”
