Organised by the initiative Enhancing Development through Cooperatives (EDC), the four-day Cooperative Leadership Event brought together 102 cooperative leaders as well as 50 experts from the main organisations supporting them: the United States African Development Foundation / Uganda Development Trust (USADF/UDET), the Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA), the Uganda National Farmers Federation (UNFFE), the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA-CLUSA), ACDI-VOCA, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), USAID,Technoserve, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), GIZCGIARGlobal CommunitiesACAV and Agriterra.

According to Lamon Rutten, Manager of the Policies, Markets and ICTs (PMI) programme at CTA, "the value of agriculture is in the value chain, not in primary production. Just like in Europe, the US and Japan, cooperatives in Africa need to move upstream and downstream in the value chain. CTA is pleased to be working with the US Overseas Cooperative Development Council to foster this project in the years to come."
