CTA at the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 22) to the UNFCCC

From 7 November until 18 November 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco

October 17, 2016

On 5 October 2016, the threshold was reached for entry into force of the Paris Agreement. This makes COP 22 particularly significant. CTA staff will be involved in several of the events on the sidelines of this COP, including Adaptation of African Agriculture: From Science to Action, which is being co-organised with the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Morocco’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) on Sunday 13 November 2016. The event will discuss Adaptation of African Agriculture, an initiative the Moroccan government launched to transform agriculture in Africa to respond to climate change.

CTA will participate in two other events. "Investment Opportunities For Scaling Up CSA" is being co-organised with the Global Alliance for Climate-Smart Agriculture (GACSA) and the Italian Ministry of Environment on Saturday 12 November. A panel of speakers including Michael Hailu, Director of CTA, will explore investment in climate-smart agriculture (CSA), which will demand innovative approaches to resource mobilisation.

CCAFS is also working with the Climate Smart Agriculture Youth Network (CSAYN) and CLIMDEV-Africa Youth Platform (ACLYP) to stage "Youth Engagement in Climate-smart Agriculture in Africa" on Tuesday 15 November 2016. CTA's Senior Programme Coordinator Oluyede Ajayi will be one of the speakers to explore the contribution of African youth to CSA, the gap in youth skills in the uptake of CSA, and the opportunities to promote youth engagement in CSA.
