The agreement paves the way for both CTA and WUR to work on joint preparation and participation in international agenda setting programmes in partnership with other key stakeholders. The agreement also allows them to conduct joint conferences, seminars, research and training around shared priorities such as climate-smart agriculture, entrepreneurship, food security, ICTs and nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
Huub Löffler, Director Wageningen International, who represented WUR at the ceremony, had this to say about the MoU, « CTA and WUR share the vision that sustainable agriculture is key to achieving many, if not most of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are convinced that further intensifying the collaboration between both organisations will be highly instrumental to achieving these SDGs, to the benefit of society at large. »
CTA Director Michael Hailu added, "The partnership with WUR is very critical. They have several projects in Africa especially, and also in the Caribbean and the Pacific. They have many new research innovations that we can use and capitalise on. CTA has very good networks with farmers' organisations and small and medium-sized enterprises, so there is a huge potential for partnership. Both organisations have already done a great deal of work, but, now that we've reviewed this, we see there is even much more potential than we realised initially."
