In 2014, CTA celebrates 30 years of service to agricultural and rural development in Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific (ACP). The Centre is proud to mark this milestone and acknowledges the contribution of its many partners in its endeavour to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management.
CTA is working together with FAO and the World Rural Forum to give greater visibility to the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) in ACP countries through a variety of activities. And as 2014 is also the International Year of Small Islands States, an online dossier that presents the views of CTA experts on "Rejuvenating family farming" in the Caribbean and the Pacific has been created and is accessible through CTA website.
Index-based weather insurance can help smallholder farmers increase their resilience to changing weather patterns caused by climate change. CTA promotes index insurance as a cost-effective safety net to smallholders in Southern and Eastern Africa. This past May, CTA presented its work in the field at a high-level conference in Bonn, Germany.
