CTA is looking for a highly motivated and result-oriented intern to join the Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation (LME) unit.

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food security, resilience and inclusive economic growth in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific through innovations in sustainable agriculture. CTA operates under the framework of the Cotonou Agreement and is funded by the EU.

Internship background
The
Learning, Monitoring & Evaluation (LME) unit now has an exciting
opportunity for a young monitoring and evaluation (M&E) professional. You
will gain experience and exposure to M&E tools and strategies, enabling you
to better understand the dynamics of our sector and make a contribution to our
organisation.
The LME Unit has structured its work around the following areas:
- Gap analysis: monitoring CTA’s progress towards
achieving the targets set in the corporate log frame and proposing
adjustments to the project portfolio, as deemed necessary or opportune.
- M&E plans: supporting the formulation and
implementation of M&E plans for all the major projects, with a view to
making sure that investments in M&E will be fruitful and match the
specific requirements of each project.
- M&E data management: strengthening CTA’s
capacity for capturing and managing M&E data on the entire project
portfolio, through more systematic data collection and the development of
an IT-based business intelligence portal that supports management
decision-making.
Duties and responsibilities
Under the supervision of the LME Unit Manager, while collaborating with other team members, the intern is expected to provide back-up support and technical input to the Unit’s work. More specifically, the following tasks will be part of the intern’s day-to-day activity:
- Data management: cleaning, inputting and quality control in
CTA’s IT-based project management, monitoring and reporting system and other
relevant databases.
- Data analysis: analyse
quantitative data to assess programme / project performance to guide CTA’s
project interventions.
- Reports creation:
interactive reports through our business intelligence portal; regular
analytical M&E reports based on feedback from CTA partners and
beneficiaries; use of infographics and data visualisation IT based tools to
make quantitative and qualitative data easily understandable to CTA staff and
other defined audiences; PowerPoint presentations.
- Knowledge base creation:
conduct research/literature reviews, including on contextual information about
CTA’s geographic areas of work and intervention areas.
The intern will also have the opportunity to be involved in the two other areas of LME’s work (cf. section 2).
Qualifications, experience and skills required
- National of one of the ACP or EU States signatory to
the Cotonou Agreement - 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the European Union member states. Only applications from nationals of
these countries will be considered.
- Recent
graduate, between 21 and 29 years old (maximum).
- University degree
(Bachelor/Master) in agriculture, monitoring and evaluation or a related field
with a strong background in quantitative methods.
- Familiarity
with statistical packages for both qualitative and quantitative analysis;
- Strong
background in IT and internet applications;
- Familiarity
with the DAC evaluation criteria, logical framework and logic model approaches;
- Excellent
written, presentation, communication and analytical skills;
- Excellent
knowledge of English or French and satisfactory command of the other language.
- Competence
in the use of the MS Office package especially PowerPoint, Access and Excel;
- Competence
in the use of Business Intelligence solutions as well as database management;
- Keen
interest in data visualisation solutions;
- Ideally
familiar with African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries;
- Interest
in and knowledge of international development is also an asset.
