CTA is collaborating with UNEP in the Wadi el Ku catchment management project for livelihoods development and sustainable peace in Sudan.
The activity will take place in Darfur and is nestled into an existing EU-funded (UNEP – administered) 8.4M USD project. The project is focused on improving “livestock production” through sustainable watershed management and provision of “access to micro-finance services to support agricultural and related value-chain economic activities”.
“The poor management of the interactions between pastoralists and farming communities along migratory routes is a regular source of conflict, as is access to post-harvest crop residue and forest resources.
Activities will benefit pastoralists, whose livelihoods will be strengthened by clarifying access to grazing and water resources in the project area, and by strengthening various livestock value chains in which pastoralists participate.
The deployment of Participatory 3D Modelling (P3DM) in Darfur will be a first in the country and will facilitate locating of resource distribution and access, of tangible and intangible value systems on which decisions are traditionally made facilitate dialogue among concerned parties.
