42nd IFAD Governing Council: The Future of Farming – New Technologies to Transform Smallholder Agriculture

Event Overview

This session introduces frontier technologies and innovative thinkers, demonstrates pathways to integrate new technologies in rural communities, and supports grassroots innovation and development. It is designed to project a long-term vision of the next generation of smallholder agriculture projects, looking ten to thirty years into the future.

Moderated by the Associate Vice-President for Corporate Services Division, the session begins with a discussion on building an enabling policy environment to support technological innovation in agriculture. This is followed by leading innovators and practitioners in the field sharing lessons learned from their experience of building and implementing new technologies. The technologies, blockchain and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), have been selected on the basis of the strong level of interest from the investment community to accelerate their implementation and impact.

Two speakers on the panel focusing on UAV are CTA partners from CharisUAS (Rwanda) and SOWIT (France/Morocco).
