The Climate research for development (CR4D) is a multi-institutional initiative supported by the UN economic commission for Africa (UNECA), African climate policy centre (ACPC), World meteorological organization (WMO), World climate research programme (WCRP), Global framework for climate services (GFCS) and the African ministerial conference on meteorology (AMCOMET). The overarching mission of CR4D is to improve knowledge, access, quality, usability and mainstreaming of climate information into development planning and programmes in Africa. The Scientific advisory committee (SAC) is a governance entity of CR4D responsible for providing guidance for the CR4D research priorities and scientific assessment of the CR4D climate related research activities as established, supported, and implemented by the CR4D initiative.

The upcoming SAC meeting comes at an opportune time as the launch of the first CR4D research grants through the African academy of sciences (AAS), under the auspices of the WISER programme, is imminent. This agenda item encompasses the grant management frame work and thematic areas to be covered by the research grants. The SAC also deliberates on the final CR4D strategy document developed last year and which has been reviewed by different CR4D governing bodies. Other items in the SAC’s programme include the CR4D progress report and the initiatives implementation plan for the year 2019.
