The launch of the CTA success stories booklet ''The power of Maps'' is scheduled to take place on Friday 2 September, at 19:30, during the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016. The event – organised in partnership with the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Co-ordinating Committee (IPACC) and the UNDP Equator Initiative – will be held at UNDP Kauhale (room 314, Hawai'i Convention Centre).
The booklet is a collection of 12 impact stories about participatory 3-dimensional modelling (P3DM), an innovative process that maps traditional knowledge as physical three-dimensional models.
Following the launch of the new CTA publication, a number of speakers whose stories were captured in the book, as well as others who have been practicing P3DM, will demonstrate the value of participatory mapping in three dimensions and its impact on identity building, informed spatial planning and community engagement. The session will also discuss how best to further upscale the deployment of the process in community-based initiatives.
