Event Overview

Theme: Organizing small holder farmers to harness new investments; partnerships & innovations to enhance value chain ownership, productivity & market integration.

This congress will be marking the beginning of a New Transformative approach towards the sustainability of EAFF and that of its member organizations. EAFF has embraced ICT4Ag and is rolling out its largest project yet with the intention of contributing to “An African Agriculture driven by data” in line with its New strategic plan 2013-2020.

The Fourth EAFF congress is set to commence on14th and 15th September 2017 at Munyonyo Speke resort, Kampala Uganda. EAFF has a strategic plan 2013-2020; whose orientation is Entrepreneurship.

The mission of EAFF is to represent, lobby and advocate for Eastern Africa farmers interests and build their capacities. The Federation, apart from voicing views and demands of the farmers on cross-cutting issues, also promotes regional integration of the farmers through trade. 

EAFF organizes a Farmers Congress every 4 years and it brings together more than 200 delegates from all over the world and exhibitors.

    EAFF is a regional farmer organisation that represent approximately 20 million farmers in eastern and central Africa. The Eastern Africa Farmers Federation (EAFF), formed in 2001, has its chapter registered in 10 member countries. EAFF’s establishment was championed by the nationals farmers organisations from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo to respond to the felt need to get organised at regional level. This came about as the Eastern Africa Community had been revived and the development of regional economic blocs. EAFF is a non-political, non-profit and a democratic organisation of all farmers of Eastern Africa. Its role is to voice legitimate concerns and interests of farmers of the region with aim of enhancing regional cohesiveness and social-economic status of the farmers. eaff2 22 members: farmer federations, national co-operatives, national commodity associations 10 countries: EAC + Ethiopia + Eritrea + DRC + South Sudan + Djibouti The mission of EAFF is to represent, lobby and advocate for Eastern Africa farmers interests and build their capacities. EAFF is deeply involved in agriculture issues at the regional level and has signed MoUs with EAC, COMESA & IGAD and has been instrumental in the regional CAADP investment plans EAFF has MoUs with regional private sector – East Africa Grain Council (EAGC) and the East Africa Business Council (EABC) EAFF seats in the board of the regional research institutions ASARECA, FARA and RUFORUM In general, EAFF offers the following services to its members: Provision of capacity to the member platforms through training, partnerships and linkages with other private sector entities (input and output markets) Representation in the meetings or consultations at regional, continental and international levels on issues of interest to farmers of the region. Lobby and advocate for farmers’ participation in policy formulation and participation in the implementation of rural development protocols whose aims are to eradicate poverty and ensure food security. Agriculture commodity marketing within the region and internationally. Participation in the discussion on trade rules and regulations that might lead to agreements in agriculture trade.
