A subregional capacity building workshop on knowledge management targeted at Island States in the North Pacific sub-region. The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) will be elaborating a knowledge management plan supporting its agricultural and forestry policy agenda with national stakeholders from the agricultural stakeholders. Observers from Palau, Marshall Islands and Nauru will attend to determine if a similar KM Action plan could be applicable in their context. Participants such as agricultural officers, extension and rural advisory services (RAS), research and information management officers who are already using some knowledge management methods and techniques will acquire additional capacity to apply these to Participatory Rural Appraisal and capture the knowledge generated in the field, documentation, and translating into learning and dissemination for wider adoption.
Knowledge management tools and approaches to support agriculture policies, research and extension services
The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, proudly supporting development since 1947. We are an international development organisation owned and governed by our 26 country and territory members. Much of our focus is on major cross-cutting issues, such as climate change, disaster risk management, food security, gender equality, human rights, non-communicable diseases and youth employment. Using a multi-sector approach in responding to our members’ development priorities, we draw upon skills and capabilities from around the region and internationally, and support the empowerment of Pacific communities and sharing of expertise and skills between countries and territories.
The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food security, resilience and inclusive economic growth in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific through innovations in sustainable agriculture. CTA operates under the framework of the Cotonou Agreement and is funded by the EU.
The Intra-ACP Agricultural Policy Programme (Intra-ACP APP) is a broad technical cooperation framework with focus on the Caribbean and Pacific islands, that supports the reduction and eventual eradication of poverty in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries through sustainable development and the integration of sustainable enterprises in these economies into national, regional and, where appropriate, global markets. This €20 million, four-year programme (2013–16) is funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) – an instrument that provides Community aid for development cooperation in the ACP States.
