Pacific Week of Agriculture 2017

Pacific Week of Agriculture 2017

Event Overview

Vanuatu will host the first ever Pacific Week of Agriculture in Port Vila in October 2017. The Pacific Week of Agriculture follows the model of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture which has been successfully staged in various countries of the Caribbean region over the past decade.

CTA has been one of the key protagonists for the Pacific Week of Agriculture (PWA). Working in collaboration with FAO and SPC, the partners succeeded in having the concept endorsed by the Pacific Ministers of Agriculture in Papua New Guinea in 2015. The 1st biennial PWA will be held from the 16-20 October, 2017 in Vanuatu. The Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific and the CARICOM Secretariat have expressed keen interest in this event. CTA’s participation in and support to hosting the PWA is critical and in keeping with its commitments to Pacific Ministers.

CTA will showcase its ongoing work in the Pacific and across the wider ACP Group of States. The Centre will also build on valuable lessons learned from its decade-plus involvement in co-hosting the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) to demonstrate its Pacific footprints and raise its profile as a partner of choice. One of the Centre’s strengths and a comparative advantage, is the multi-plier effect of its strategic partnership approach in implementing actions on the ground.
