Promoting youth employment in the West African rice sector (roundtable)

Event Overview

AfricaRice and the Technical Center for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) have decided to join forces to develop a joint project proposal aimed at developing job opportunities and creating sustainable businesses for young people in rural areas by actively involving them in improving rice value chains in Mali and Senegal.

The project CTA is considering in collaboration with Africa Rice has the objective of developing and strengthening entrepreneurial capacity, establishing links with the market and promoting value-added activities for rural youth along the rice value chains of Mali and Senegal. Proposed by AfricaRice and CTA, this project will involve a range of partners, including the governments of these two countries, national rice growers associations, private actors, such as input suppliers and rice mills, financial institutions, research organisations, incubation centres and NGOs.

The workshop proposed by AfricaRice and CTA will discuss the main issues related to the project with a small group of representatives of the rice sector and rural youth of Senegal and Mali. The workshop will identify opportunities for young people's access to entrepreneurship along the rice value chain.
