Youth and Women Engagement with Livestock Value Chains: Insights and Lessons from the IGAD Region

Youth and Women Engagement with Livestock Value Chains: Insights and Lessons from the IGAD Region

Event Overview

A workshop to explore how efficient livestock value chains can help East African women and young people improve their livelihoods opens in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on August 25. The two-day event, jointly organised by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA), Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture and the Ethiopian Society for Animal Production, will share lessons on inclusive livestock value chains in the six countries of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region – Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. The workshop is a follow-up to discussions held earlier in 2015 between CTA and key livestock stakeholders in Ethiopia and Kenya to identify the potential for improved livestock production systems and associated industries as a pathway out of poverty for rural communities.
