Biography

Boney Wera is a researcher and crop breeder at the National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI) of Papua New Guinea (PNG). He graduated with a BSc in Tropical Agriculture in 2006 from the University of Vudal, PNG and worked as a researcher cadet for 2 years in a crop improvement programme with NARI through its cadetship training scheme. He started his formal employment with NARI in 2009 as a researcher in crop breeding. His research focuses mainly on plant breeding and agronomy. With over 9 years of field experience Mr. Wera is currently undertaking a lead role in breeding sweet potato and cassava for improved yield and nutritional qualities, while also developing varieties for PNG with resilience to climate change.
