Pietro Gennari

Biography

Mr Gennari is the Director of the FAO Statistics Division since December 2008, and, since November 2012, he holds the additional responsibility of FAO Chief Statistician. As such, he ensures the coordination of FAO statistical system by fostering the consistency of the overall statistical programme of work and by ensuring the implementation of statistical standards and best practices.

Mr Gennari has over 25 years of professional experience in the main areas of official statistics and in managing statistical programmes, both at the national and international levels. Before joining FAO, he worked for the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), and then for the UN Regional Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
