Solomon Islands embarks on an agritourism policy

The Solomon Islands held a 'Policy Setting Workshop', organised by the government of the Solomon Islands, CTA, the Pacific Island Private Sector Organisation (PIPSO), the South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Pacific Community (SPC), in Honiara, 21-22 November, to establish the main elements for a national agritourism policy. Over 40 representatives discussed the opportunities for linkages between the agriculture, tourism and trade sectors.

The Agribusiness Forum - a Pacific pledge to harness agritourism for rural development

An event aimed at promoting links between agriculture and other productive sectors in the Pacific islands has resolved to set up a regional initiative to drive plans for developing agribusiness and agritourism. The Nadi Declaration, made at the close of the Agribusiness Forum: Linking the agrifood sector to the tourism-related markets, pledged to launch a Regional Agritourism Steering Group, whose first task is to draw up a Pacific Work Plan for agritourism by 1 September 2015.

Samoa : Les données pour connecter les agriculteurs au marché

Le CTA s’est récemment entretenu avec Marisa Areli, responsable de la gestion des données pour Women in Business Development Incorporated (WIBDI). Son travail consiste à transférer des informations sur les agriculteurs, comme le type de production, le niveau de revenu et le nom du village, dans des rapports en ligne, en vue de contribuer à connecter les agriculteurs au marché et les touristes aux agriculteurs.

Iese Mataia / Samoa : Un réel avenir dans l’agriculture

Iese Mataia, 24 ans, avait toujours prévu de suivre les traces de son père en devenant menuisier. Un jour, il enttendit parler du programme « Organic Warriors Academy », une initiative lancée par le partenaire du CTA « Women in Business Development Inc » afin d’encourager les jeunes à revenir vers l’agriculture. Il prit alors une décision qui allait changer sa vie.
