Marthe Montcho: Blogging for social change

Marthe Montcho started her blog, L’Agriculture au féminin or Women in Farming, in October 2013. Despite initially knowing very little about blogging, she quickly became a success as the blog grew in popularity. Montcho’s desire to fill what she saw as an information gap and empower female farmers, particularly in her home country of Benin, led to her winning the Youth in Agriculture Blog Competition (YoBloCo), organised by CTA in 2014.

Soutenir les jeunes start-up e-agricoles

Au cours du dernier trimestre de 2016, les 25 finalistes de Pitch AgriHack – sélectionnés à la suite d’une compétition ayant rassemblé 152 start-up e-agricoles de toute l’Afrique et des Caraïbes – ont participé à un atelier de formation intensive de 2 jours. Ce bootcamp, qui s’est tenu à l’iHub de Nairobi, était dédié aux offres de services commerciaux dans le domaine de l’e-agriculture.

Agri-Food Forum looks to the future

The 2015 Caribbean Pacific Agri-Food Forum, held in Barbados, focused on many of CTA’s priority interventions for the regions. There was a strong emphasis on impact. In Africa, CTA has been encouraging greater intra-regional trade, and we played a prominent role in two important conferences in Equatorial Guinea and Rwanda.

European Development Days 2017: Inclusive trade in Africa

Supporting the realisation of Simplified Trade Regimes (STRs) is part of CTA’s activities in trade facilitation. To further this and other conversations, CTA is co-organising four events during this year’s European Development Days in Brussels. Pitch AgriHack seeks to promote greater engagement of young women

CTA has launched ‘Pitch AgriHack 2018’ a competition to support young agricultural entrepreneurs (agripreneurs) build viable businesses and boost innovation for a more sustainable agricultural sector. Winning innovations will be awarded up to €15,000, as well as mentoring and networking opportunities.

Tremendous opportunities for more business-focused African agriculture

Opportunities for agribusiness to transform African agriculture – especially when coupled with smart farming – are at the forefront of three major events taking place in Accra, Ghana, this month. The 2nd Pan African Agribusiness Incubators Conference and Expo, until 6 October, explores the potential for agribusiness, trade and investment in Africa, including ways of linking smallholders to markets and facilitating the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).
